The Kingfish Company is a pioneer and leader in sustainable, technology driven land-based aquaculture. Current annual production capacity at its Kingfish Zeeland facility in the Netherlands is 3,500 tons of high quality, highv alue Yellowtail Kingfish.
Advanced recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) isused, which protect biodiversity and ensure bio security. Animal welfare is paramount, and the fish are grown without the use of antibiotics or vaccines. Operations run on 100% renewable energy.The company’s facilities operate on sea water to avoid using and wasting precious fresh water.
Achievements to date
Today, The Kingfish Company is one of the few commercial hatcheries for Yellowtail Kingfish globally,yielding millions of fingerlings annually in multiple production cycles.
In 2017, PI Impact made its first investment in The Kingfish Company.
Since the opening of the facility in Zeeland in 2016, production doubled to 500 tons of Yellowtail in 2019.
In November 2020, The Kingfish Company went public on the Oslo Merkur Market, the Norwegian stock exchange.
Expansion of the facilities resulted in the annual production of 3,500 tons of Yellowtail. Opening of a production site in Maine, US, is planned, to deliver daily across the US.
A versatile premium fish
The Kingfish Company’s product, the Yellowtail Kingfish (also known as Ricciola/ Hiramasa/ Greater Amberjack), is a highly versatile premium fish species that is well known in Italian and Asian fusion cuisines.
The company’s products are certified and approved as sustainable and environmentally friendly by the AquacultureS tewardship Council (ASC), Best Aquaculture Practice (BAP) and the British Retail Consortium (BRC).
